Town of Shelter Island
Community Housing Board
The Community Housing Board (CHB) was established by the Town Board to create and sustain housing opportunities for income eligible individuals and families. The CHB is responsible for the administration and control of community housing opportunities. The Community Housing Law provides for both rental and home ownership possibilities; however at the present time only rental assistance is available.
The CHB will accept applications from both potential renters as well as potential landlords. Under this program, some potential landlords will have the opportunity it create rental space that is currently not permitted under the current zoning laws.
The CHB will maintain a listing of available rentals as well as a list of individuals or families who qualify for such rentals. Additional information on eligibility requirements is contained in the application form.
Application forms for both renters and those wishing to rent a living space under this program can be found on this site. For additional information contact Mary-Faith Healey (631)749-3244 or Hoot Sherman (631)749-8941.
