1. Shelter Island Office for Senior Services: Our senior center serves as a focal point for social, recreational and educational programs for Shelter Island residents 60 years of age and older. We are located on Route 114 S. Ferry Road on the lower level of the Medical Center.. Hours are Monday through Friday from 10:00am-2:00pm We provide information about available resources to senior citizen, family members and caregivers. We provide a community gathering place that offers programs to help maximize independence and quality of life. We offer assistance with the following. a. Planning for long term care or retirement concerns b. Hospice referral and coordination c. EISEP program d. Counseling on Medicare, Medicaid, and Supplementary Health Insurance e. AARP 55 Alive Driver Safety Classes f. Medical equipment borrowing program Contacts: Henrietta Roberts or Dana Hallman at 749-1059 2. SCAC Senior Citizens Advisory Council An advisory body to the Supervisor and Town Board of Shelter Island, in regard to the needs and concerns of Shelter Island's older residents. Through the senior services and programs offered on Shelter Island, the council shall assist the older residents of Shelter Island in finding the help they need at home, in home health care, nutrition, legal and financial services, companionship and more. It will monitor the effectiveness of all senior programs and their staff, and advise the Town Board relative to supervision & personnel. The Council shall inform the Town Board of the needs of the Town's Senior and initiate and monitor programs designated to meet those needs. Chairman: Ron Lucas 749-0291 3. SISCA Shelter Island Senior Citizens Association A community based organization for adults aged 55 years and older for the purposes of socializing, taking trips, enjoying cultural events and enjoying hobbies. Dues are $10.00 per year.
