I would like to extend my sincerest gratitude to the community of Shelter Island, for giving me the greatest honor and privilege of working with the children of our island the past 3 years and for having faith in me as the Youth Center Director. More importantly, I would like to thank the children of Shelter Island for allowing me to be a part of your life through the Youth Center. No matter the kind of day I was having, I was assured that going into work each day, you would bring a smile to my face.
This position presented with some challenges, particularly in the beginning as we started in the trailer at the recycling center. Nevertheless, the programs and activities began to flourish and the need for a more appropriate space and convenient location became a priority. The dream of a bigger and better Youth Center became a reality in 2008, with the hard work of the men and women in the American Legion, the Town of Shelter Island and some very gracious donors.
I have faith that the Town of Shelter Island and the Recreation Department will find a new Youth Center Director that will continue providing programs, activities and a safe place for our children.
I would like to thank each and every one of you once again for having faith in my ability to provide a safe place for your children to play, laugh and grow. It was those things that made my time at the Youth Center so rewarding.
All the best,
Lee Oliver
