brush cutting & removal
Please click here for information on Wild Parsnip, which has recently been found on Shelter Island.
It is the goal of the Shelter Island Highway Department to work with homeowners to clean out encroaching/overgrown vegetation. The Town owns approximately 10-20 feet from the edge of the blacktop roadway to a homeowner's property line (depending on the property.) This is called a right-of-way. Right-of-ways serve the following purposes:
- Vehicle Parking (including Emergency Vehicles)
- Snow Placement Areas While Plowing Roads
- Temporary Debris Placement Areas During Storm Cleanup
- Access for Utility Companies
PLEASE NOTE: Invasive species, such as "mile-a-minute" vine and bamboo are NOT proper forms of privacy screening for your property.
