E-Waste Drop-Off Area

Please bring all electronics including personal computers, hard drives, laptops, monitors, keyboards, printers, fax machines, gaming systems, televisions, telephones and cell phones, and office equipment such as answering machines, calculators or adding machines.

  • Goodies and Clothing Exchange Station
  • Any small item or appliance in 100% working condition
  • No hazardous items should be left in this area. Hours Posted and supervised.

General Instructions for Garbage Disposal and / or Recycling Rules

  • Self-Haulers: Follow the instructions on the signs at the recycling & transfer station. If you do not know what to do, ask an attendant at the recycling & transfer station. Town officials and recycling & transfer station employees reserve the right to inspect your disposables upon request and without advance notice.
  • Business Owners/ Commercial Carters: Business owners and commercial carters are required to separate recyclable materials, including cardboard, prior to delivery to the recycling & transfer station. If you are a business owner who uses the services of a commercial carter, your carter will give you more specific information.
  • Violations: Violators of the Town's recycling law are subject to fines from $50 to $1000 and/or up to 40 hours of community service. The following acts constitute violations:
    • Disposal of non-recyclables in other than Town of Shelter Island disposal bags.
    • Disposal of waste outside the gates of disposal area or recycling & transfer station or any other non-designated area.
    • Failure to sort recyclables properly at the recycling & transfer station or illegal disposal of hazardous waste.
