Safe Boaters Certificate

Summer is here! 

Are you ready for a safe and fun boating season this boating season? Earn your New York State Safe Boating Certificate, by attending two, 4 hour, evening sessions. NY State law now requires that as of January 1, 2025, ANYYONE who operates a motor boat, is required to have a Safe Boaters Certificate. All Jet Ski operators, 14 and older, must have one. The Shelter Island Police Department is offering Two Safe Boating Class Sessions this summer, to be held at The Shelter Island Emergency Services Building (12 Manwaring Road). The First Session is scheduled on July 16 & 17 Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. Classes are from 5:30 to 9:30. We will have a few short breaks so you can stretch and have the snacks you bring to class. Class instruction is free and all books and materials will be provided. A $10. NYS certification processing fee will be charged to those 18 years or older.

The second Session will be at the same time and location on August 20 & 21, Tuesday and Wednesday, evenings. Make it a family affair or bring a buddy. Minimum 10 years of age to enroll. Class size is limited. Reserve your space by going on line at: https://parks.ny.gov/boating/boating-safety-class.aspx Once on the website, at the ‘in-classroom instruction” paragraph, select the highlighted section, “Find a Safe Boating Class near you”. Enter the 11964 or 11965 Zip code and select the 10 mile range. Fill in the reservation Information for the session you prefer.
