 Board and Committee Members Wanted  


(1) Green Options Committee

The Green Options Committee (GOC) was established to advise the Town Board about environmentally friendly practices that address climate change challenges and contribute to a more resilient future for the Island.

The committee’s recent initiatives include renewable energy options for the Town and homeowners, waste reduction, and sustainable landscapes. 

The committee is looking for two (2) new members who  have current or prior environmental experience.

  • Members are appointed by the Town Board.
  • Membership is a volunteer position and the term of service is for Three (3) Years
  • The Green Options Committee meets on the third 
  • Thursday  of every month at 11:00 AM at Town Hall
  • Members conduct informational special events throughout the year such as the Annual Green Expo

(2) Health and Wellness Committee  Members Wanted

*** PLEASE NOTE: As of February 10, 2026 the Town is No Longer Accepting Applications

The HWC is looking for three (3) new members to help foster a culture of health, balance, and support for Shelter Island !

  • Applicants must be a resident of Shelter Island.
  • Membership is a Volunteer position. Members are Appointed by the Town Board. Term of Service is for Five (5)  Years.
  • While a degree or experience in  health, mental health, and/or wellness is not essential, it would be helpful to have knowledge in these areas.
  • Excellent communication skills. Spanish speaking is a plus
  • Ability to help organize and run programs related to health issues.
  • Knowledge  of the Shelter Island community.


(3) Licensing Review Board

The Town of Shelter Island is currently seeking one volunteer Board Member to serve on the Licensing Review Board !

The Licensing Review Board Member hears and determines any complaint or grievance that may be the basis  for suspension or revocation of a contractor’s license as per § 79-20 Licensing Review Board Town Code.

The Term of Service is Two (2) Years

Town Code Overview

  1. There is hereby established in and for the Town of Shelter Island a Licensing Review Board, consisting of either three or five members, as may be determined from time to time by the Town Board, who shall be appointed by the Town Board to serve at the pleasure of the Town Board. In no event shall a member serve for more than two years unless reappointed by the Town Board.
  2. The Town Board shall designate one member of the Licensing Review Board to serve as Chairman thereof.
  3. A majority of the members shall constitute a quorum of the Licensing Review Board.
  4. Members of the Licensing Review Board shall be residents of the Town and shall serve voluntarily without salary or compensation.
